we are talking about the racism in Australia(that is the discrimination on the basis of colour and creed) forgetting about the discrimination prevailing in the country itself. When we are not able to equalise every person specially when we consider the case of women and men the discrimination is still there, and the worst example is women are still considered as a second citizens who's boundary is still her home, however there is a progress in the status of women but the condition is still not up to the mark. Another discrimination is based on class, that is the hierarchy present in Indian culture.
These are the only reasons for the attacks and until and unless we make our own system powerful we cant expect others to respect us as equals. This is a vicious circle,it will keep on repeating itself if you will discriminate others on the basis of gender and class in your own country, others will obviously discriminate you on the basis of race. The philosophy becomes very simple whoever is getting chance to show his/her superiority ,he is showing it either on the country level or on the global level.
As i read certain views of peoples it is visible in those articles that every Australian are not the same but still the problem persists and yes as i think attack on Indians are racial, some people want to show superiority in either ways so they are doing so. On the basis of some bad peoples we cant judge the whole world.
Sum of all is "before thinking globally we need to think locally".

Right said Ajay, Apart from all this we Indians are supporting racism. Racism seeds are in India also. We are the ones who run to the cosmetic centre to buy the fairness cream. We are the ones who want fair wife/husband. We are the ones who will watch TV only if a good looking fair man/woman appears on it. The police in India will always judge you by the color. At the airport, if you are dark, you will be frisked twice. You will be looked down upon if you are dark in color. As a child we are always told that white is good looking, black is ugly. Will we ever have a dark colored Miss India? Racism is a seed that India is not new to, it is there in India itslef. Good Luck with it.

I have a few south indian, maharshtrian and assamese friends, who are currently residing in Sydney/Melbourne. They do have the brown color and indian features, but they are never treated ill on the roads, not even once. Now I am not making this up, but it is informed that the north indian studentss act funny, sometimes pretentious and mostly arrogant not only with aussies bt also wid fellow indian students, play loud bhangra songs, act erratically and unnecesserily diss in English, which they cannot even speak in a proper way. This clearly creates a rage amongst aussie new blood which is quite obvious. To name it as racism, is not the deal. Media is creating an unnecessary hype. Please take a closer look at the cases, you will never find an indian frm da south, west or east who's been a victim. I am an Indian and will always stand for the betterment of India. If few people go to foreign countries and are spoiling the name of India, they are getting their punishments.

Racism was at the heart of North American slavery and the colonization and empire-building activities of some Western Europeans overseas, especially in the 18th century. The idea of race was invented to magnify the differences between people of European origin in the United States and those of African descent whose ancestors had been brought against their will to function as slaves in the American South. By projecting Africans and their descendants as lesser human beings, the proponents of slavery attempted to justify and maintain this system of exploitation while at the same time portraying the United States as a stronghold and champion of human freedom, with human rights, democratic institutions, unlimited opportunities, and equality.
In the present world of globalization ,world citizenship and humantarian age ,these false concepts of color, caste, creed ,religion ,culture etc should be aborted

The attacks on the Indian students are unfortunate. But I am unable to understand why such attacks mounted suddenly. It is not clear also what was the role of the Indian High Commission at the initial stages of the attack. It was basically its responsibility to react positively. However, such attacks have united the Indians to protest again hooliganism. Will the same sprit prevail when in the name of regional identity Indian students from a different part of the country are being subjected to humiliation by regional fundamentalists at their areas of dominance within India itself?

Its a matter of great concern that we, Indians are being attacked or being victims of racism. Our leaders are also making alot of fuss but all good for nothing. We self praise ourself by calling emerging economies and powerful nation. but these incidents show us our real status where we stand in this world. this is started by us only. Our constituion gives all our citizens right to practice his/her religion, occupation and wherever he wishes i.e in any state. then our political leaders go against The constituion barring people of other states to come and work as is the case in Bihar Maharashtra controversy or Bihaar Assam case. Otherwise we ask for different types of reservation on the name of caste, tribes, sex, religion, age, physically challenged, special class, etc now when we are not able to live happily in our own country where all are own people only then to imagine for happy and safe living beyond our boundries is totally day dreaming. We r only comparing ourselves to Americans but we should know that America take care of its even a single national. but here so many are dieing everyday but who bothers. Still our country is great and we are great. Here People can demand to forgive the attacker of parliament , Mumbai CST. Explanation for this is that we love peace. We know where the terrorist hub r but still we believe in talks and no action. we r peace loving country. aren't we. Some one will come kill one no body wil reciprocate unless it is his own. its time to come together on our known and not to be dependent on our leaders. its time to not follow them but to make them follow the people. to show the world that India is coming beaware and any attack will not be tolerated. We love peace but can be more destructive if any one points a finger towards us

Don't we get good higher education in our country itself? There are examples of many people who were educated and worked here itself and are world famous indifferent fields of life. So, better stop the people from going abroad to study or work unnecessarily which has become a fashion in some cases. "Janani Janmabhumishcha Swargadapi gariyasi" which means mother and motherland is a heaven. One who understands this will always be happy. Our people living abroad should unite together and protest this peacefully, we do the same.

I am Malaysian of Indian ethnicity. In short, I am what India refers to as a PIO (Person of Indian Origin).
I personally know the parents of a Malaysian Indian student who was brutally attacked in Australia. It left him with some brain damage. So, the issue is not confined to Indians from India studying in Australia alone. PIO’s are also affected.
But this racist phenomena in Australia is recent. The racist phenomena in Malaysia has been going on for decades, with all sorts of discrimination meted out to minorities, thanks to official policies that come in the guise of an “affirmative action” program.
The case of Indians being beaten up in Australia is confined to ordinary street thugs. In Malaysia, there are cases of Malaysian Indians being beaten up by the police! As a matter of fact, Malaysian Indians form the highest percentage of any ethnic group killed while in Malaysian police custody…and many have not even been charged with any crime! And not a single member of the police has been brought to justice. Yet, I don’t see this news even mentioned in merinews, let alone India. But you can see videos of this at youtube.

racial discrimination is wrong, innocent people become victims. on the other side, some racial norms and culture tend to be frowned by other, groups of people of a certain race group normally disregard their surrounding people and environemnt, and this causes much irritation. also, some cultures are inherently voilent, which is of course disturbing to a quiter culture.
so while racism is no good, a person of a certain race should not forget respecting other races too while mingling. it is this trait that causes much displeasure among other races.

The scounderls of western society always looked after India and the indians as the creature of poverty stricken beggers. India as on today still remains a deperately poor country for many more millions of its citizens. In recent past India made tremendous progress from the day opted for global economy. This has enhanced the growth rate of the country as high as 9.5 %. The developed countries are sinking deeper into debt, depression and virtually now dying after rattling with recession. The out come now now visible in Australia and may tart in many mor countries, till recession countinues . India still strong economically with 6.7% growth, and so the people particularly middle class. Today INDIANS are the attractive objects of enviable affluance in the world. Indians being affulant move around the world with expensive accessories like jewellery, luxury watches and hi-tech cellphones where as the poor discarded from jobs of the so called developed countries are weeping in dark corner of there houses and plan to attack the indians. Shashi Tharoor is right to say that its australia's domestic problem and indians residing there need not come out on the streets to defnd themselves. India being goverened by international laws can not take any action.

Who are we to blow the attacks out of proportion?
As if we ourselves have not practiced any such practice with Indians ourselves IN India! And then we have the gall to express our "shock, contempt, anger et al" at the foreigners...
"Atithi Devo Bhava" has been used as very nice disguise to discriminate against the locals at the pretext of being respectful to outsiders.
My cousin was asked to get out of an auto after having travelled some distance only because the auto-driver saw a white lady on the road! Is this not racial discrimination??
And what about the huge desire for "fair" brides and grooms? As if being dark is somewhat a terrible thing...something like the plague!
How do you explain the mushrooming of fairness creams in the market? A person receives success only when he/she fair and/or has blemish-free skin...You can get a good bride/groom only if you are fair!! Who or how can you explain that?
Indians are being very hypocritical and opportunistic here. Raising voices for the glaring discriminations occurring daily in their country is obviously not something they want to/wish to address...
First, we need to tackle our own home-grown discrimination. Only then can we have the right to stage mock protests against the so-called racial attacks against Indians abroad.

FISA, instead of taking steps in arranging for protest against this incident, can take some worthy steps to stop such cruelty. First of all what is necessary is proper awareness about what’s happening around is needed.
What is needed next is the ability to defend. We can learn some means to protect our own selves which is nothing wrong. We can’t protest and change the world in a single day. So we must first learn how to 'live' in such situations that prevail then think about how to change it. "PEOPLE MUST FIRST LEARN TO PROTECT THEMSELVES BEFORE THEY PROTEST".
Our government should make sure that our students are safe abroad which doesn't mean keeping track of every student. Our government should take such measures against these unruly acts which will scare that government to give proper protection to our students henceforth. Students fly abroad to learn, earn and not BURN.

Indians never learnt any lesson from similar incidents in the past in other countries, nor they may learn any from present situation. They may creat similar problems if they leave the present country. Indians are always ready to work like a labourer for money, even the financial position unwarrants. Then etequtte problem with indians. Then not mixing up with the locals, never they respect others culture, they still think their culture is supreme. Under these kind of man made hinderances, they have to suffer and may suffer in future too.

There is no room for racism in the modern world and racism, even though miniscule, should be nipped in the bud. No sane person can support racism if the golbal human society is to survive. The Australian example is a slur on our civilized society.
M. S. Verma
In a recent newspaper article, the author expressed his indignation about instances of racism in Britain; and suggested that the torch has all but passed from India's former colonial masters to the country they once ruled.
The author's angst is well-intentioned, but misplaced. The cases he has highlighted are deplorable, but cannot claim to be representative of Britishers as a race. Yes, the "whites" are supercilious and sometimes condescending, but open insults and racial slurs are rare. And many Indian immigrants - especially the first generation ones - carry their "Indiannness" with them to their adopted country. This manifests itself in characteristics like breaking queues with gay abandon; and considering small courtesies like "please" and "thank you" to be beneath their dignity.
And what about the "racism" in our own country? It may not be based on skin colour, or maybe - if we are to go by the huge popularity of "fairness" creams - it is. But it most definitely exists, based on caste and social status. In fact, it may be even more insidious. Can one imagine an average middle class Indian family asking their plumber or carpenter to sit down to dinner with them? However, this is not at all unusual in the West. And why do waiters and receptionists in upscale hotels and restaurants - not to mention our own national airline - act so obsequiously towards the white-skinned folk, and afford them preferential treatment over their own countrymen? People who live in glass houses would be well advised not to throw stones.
The author asks his fellow Indians to "realize the value of their country, the bounty of our land and the splendour of their civilization." I couldn't agree more. The reality is different, however. For sure, India is emerging as an economic giant; and its rate of growth is superior to many countries in Europe. But a tourist visiting Mumbai and London, for example, would be left in no doubt about which city belonged to the First World and which to the Third. And any number of monorails and skywalks are not going to change that impression. As long as we are content to live with garbage and beggars on our streets, human being living in squalor right in the heart of our major cities; and people traveling in worse conditions than cattle in our local trains, we can never aspire to be reckoned among the top tier of the world's nations.
Before we get all high and mighty about others, we need to put our own house in order.

Racism is a phenomenon which is not only associated with color but is a very deep rooted aspect involving economicms bringing about insecurity in individual lives. Australians are quite aware that Indian students after completing their respective courses take away plum post from the Aussies. The Aussies being rough in nature attack the Indians. Indian Govt should take a stern decision immediately to stop other country citizens take cue from these incidents.

If India has to prove its credentials against racism, it has also to itself shed casteism first. It was most heartening that in recent elections the cast has played comparatively lesser role. But still we have a long way to go.In fact casteism is another manifestation of parochial view of man and society.

Racist attacks on Indian students are the result of their success. Most Australians for some odd reason are not well educated nor they have any desire to pursue higher education. Lack of education makes such whites inferior as a result they create problems for themselves. Jealously makes them look for soft targets. Things have become worse after the recession and they have been on the look for immigrants, many of whom are there because they were invited by the Australian government as a matter of policy.
Those Australians who are into violence are small in number and can be easily handles by the government and the police. The point is whether the police and many of them in government are racists? One attack should have been enough to wake up the police but the number of violent incidents is growing. I have little faith left in the Australian police. Otherwise, they should identify the culprits and bring them to book.
Indians and people of other nationalities were invited for economic reasons to Australia and the people there must learn to respect that globalized societies are multi-cultural, that people from other countries contribute to the prosperity of their own society and sooner rather later they identity with the country of their adoption.

Besides being racial, the attacks are motivated by bouts of jealousy. It is not easy to digest somebody else's success. Especially when one s used to treating other nationals with disdain. Indians are smart, hard-working and therefore successful and affluent. They have encroached on the domain of the so called developed nations and this causes bellyaches. We need to resist but retain our dignity by not doing criminal things which the "developed" nationals are so prone to do so readily.

This is senseless. The world is run by the media and this is just an instance. WHY NOW? Racism has always been there, why didn't you guys try to address this from before? Is it because some fellow Indians with rich parents got hurt that now you decided enough is enough.
And how about racism in India? Why target the Australians only? Foreigners coming to India are either seen as prostitutes or some kind of chicken we can murder to take out the golden eggs. What about our folks in Bihar when "Bihari" has become a curse word similar to "negro"? How about our discrimination against our folks from the north eastern states? Aah! They are "Chinkis", why should we even bother? We'll make them learn how to live, make the laws to govern them, to bring them to the 'mainstream'.

Racism is a general concept which means insulting other on the basis skin colour. White coloured skin holders have made their nation properous through sacrifice, hardwork and taking daring steps. Once the brown/black skin people makes their country developed and supass the whites , whites themselves will become inferior. Whatever is happening in Australia is just because indian students need the quality education which they don't get in India. The whole wolrd spins over one thing 'necessesity' . world is dependend on whites so they are taking the advantage of their position.

Indians do not mix with each other in India, now I can understand what will be their behaviour when in Australia. The feeling of superiority in any way is racism. About this ongoing racism thing- i believe its the outcome of the econonomic slump that the country is facing. Today India is a big education hub then why could we think once to end up the relation ship between a country (Aus)which can't secure Indian youth ,actually they don't want to do so...........
P.S.NITISH
the sole reason of violence as in australia is not only the prevailing racial discrimination but also not digesting the pace with which indians are rising and getting jobs which they consider their -property racial assaults are the way through which they are erupting out their anger. it is also failure of government to develop excellency in higher education in our own country. still then wehave to stand against racial discrimination. an international governing body should be there to control racial discrimination at any place anywhere in the world. india should take this matter to u.n.o

The racism in Australia against Indians is outrageous, condemnable. There is a case to react very strongly. One way could be to show our reservation to play Cricket in Australia, if racism continue. This could be a tit for tat, when Australians show reservation to play in India on the plea of terror threat.
s.k.choudhury
though we are not critics, in australia indians are suffering a lot. So we hava to take initiation to stop this racism feeling..... Australia govr didnt have a moral rights why bcoz is yesterday i saw another attack...... one thing that araising a doubt in me " what the hell is goin in aus is racism or for money"

All the attacks in Australia, on Indians, particularly on students are not because of the racia feeling. These are repercussions of the immense frustration of Australians due to job loss as a result of recession in the world economy. They think that Indian students study in Australia and they get better jobs, and this in their view results in reduction in the job opportunities to them. Though many times the racial feelings behind the attack cannot be ruled out. In both of these cases, the Australian government should act tough to book those who indulge in crimes against people of particular region, ethnicity, and langugage.
The Australians should and ought to prove that they are civilized nation, living in this twenty-first-century world.

over the years racism on indians have increased. It is a shameful verity for Australians that they are constructing such a reflection of their country on the other parts of the world. At present its only Indians who are avoiding abroad studies but in future it is possible that none from the world would like to go abroad. They will always have a question in their mind that will they be safe and sound there or not.Recently Amitabh Bachan avoided an australian award he has shown that he care for his natives. The students are coming back from Australia. I dont know what is in their mind, why are the australians being so imprudent and unwise.

I wouldn't be surprised that there are VIGILANTE groups sponsored by racist elements in Victoria Police Force responsible for attacks on Indians. This type of VIGILANTE groups were prevalent in South American Countries in 90's. The logic is to clear the street off riff-raff. These Aussie groups are sponsored by the some racist elements in the Victoria police

Australians have lost their supremacy over their most love game, cricket, presumably at the hands of India...they have no right to be racist. It is of utmost importance that Indians in Australia find ways to protect themselves even if this means possession of wepons for self defence. Australians may have to learn the lesson the hard way...just like Americans learnt it to not discriminate with blacks to the extent that they are now scared of racism...We need to let the Aussies know that they are in no ways superior to Indians....
Achillles
I think racism is a result of uneducated and xenophobic society so I recommend my Australian friends to study more about the world and go out and discover more places and cultures. I've heard about many cases where people were discriminated because of their colors in Australia and thats not good. However, I also happen to know many good Aussies that stand against racism so racism is not only in Australia its all over the world and we have to fight it
Awab
first of all the indian govt.should take legal action against indians involved in the murder and rape of so many female tourists then only we can comment against racial discrimination because every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

i am an indian student living in australia since 2006. i do agree that incidents are happening, but we can't completely put australian as being raciest ............. it is being developing since ages .... the way indians call whites as "goras" what would u call that ????????????
the way indians themselves believe whites being different from them. and their are manny more ways indians abroad and in india make whites believe they are actually very different from us .
as far as australia ia concerned ..... australia is one of the most non rasist continent ,,,,,, its full of diversity and multiculture .......
the recent attacts which have been noticed where not only an attenpt on indians by australians ...... its just few childeren who just tried to rob some radom indian student , but indian in india and abroad made a big fuss about it , and now australian being called raciest again and again even though they are not ..... has become raciest as of the anger being called raciest. ill tell u a very fair example if i call u raciest again and again and blame you again and again ,,,,,,,,,,,,, u will certainly start reacting as raciest ........ its not actually u who is raciest , its me who has made u raciest by calling the same again and again.
wake up man look in to the matter and try and get a solution , as far as i know and see i dont see their is even a single effort by an single person to get a solution and even if every one start doing some things like ralleys the whole group of indian come up and start to protest in a very violent manner , what do they think would anything be solved by them doing so ............ no it wouldn't change any thing and if it will ,,,,, the things will turn worse that all
come on guys settle down u r not their to kill them and so aren't they so chill and resolve the situation insted of getting violent.
and specially for people in india, and the indian media, i completly take your gravity of simpathy for indian living abroad and thanks allot for doing so . But do you thing what u are doing is correct ............ no u are actually making things difficult specially the indian media ,,,,, by over drafting the news and making life of yr fellow country mates living abroad difficult.
LOOK FOR A SOLUTION , dont expand the problems.
WE ARE STILL IN A SAFE and multicultutral country (australia) dont make them raciest by calling them raciest again and again.

racism no matter of what kind is condemned. so the root is lack of knowledge so solution is to educate and training . right from now onwards there must be a training courses in each and every place of work or group of gathering and learn what is the best way of living the life and fighting the negatives aspects of life. we are ready to help any institute who may needs manpower or materials in this regard.

Indians have the most ancient heritage right from atleast 20 BC, to the extent that, if one slaps on oneside of the cheek, it is said, show the other cheek show the other to slap. Such is our great culture. This attitude has made Indians to suffer for nearly 200 years. How can Indians expect the same behaviour from them, who have not learnt modesty. The cycle of time will give an appropriate answer in times to come.

Being an Indian citizen ,i was really shocked at the cruel incident in Australia.I thoght Racism is a Past event & it would not work especially among students.India has a distinct history of racism & the great Gandhiji fought against the same ugly feeling even abroad.Racial discrimination should be erradicated from the whole world by the efforts of student society.Students can do a lot in this matter.T o stop racism ,we can make awareness notices & post through internet. We should arrange campaigns of love and peace.Basically all men are good. Situations make them cruel or whatever they are.Can we stop all the discriminations?Ofcourse , we can do it.Hence please do love everyone Because all are alike .

i am an international student in Australia and i m here from quite a while now.......i recon its not racism indian media is just highlighting to gather public attention and to increase their trp....... Indians are the soft target becuzz they dn't stand against the criminals and are always ready take what ever comes on them....in Australia ..Aussies do marry Indians and they love indians who are educated and well behaved....... Indians who cum from small towns talk loud in trains in their native language looking at the local people here and they feel that they are making fun of them ...and its quite natural and fair..any body would feel that way ....and the true example of racism is in India it self..mr thakray is always against the people who migrate to Mumbai from other parts of the country....what will u call that.... Nepali people are called ghorkas, bahadur, choke daar whatss that isn't that racisim...a country who does racism with its own people should blame others for the same......teens between 17-19 do these criminal acts becuzz we indians are taking their jobs....they dn't get them becuzz we have them ....i knw attacking Indians is not the proper and the right way and aussie govt is trying its level best to deal with it....but those acts were not at all racisits and i knw this much better than any of the media personal know in india..just baying sitting there and saying crap things is easy and that's whyat the media is doing there...and becuzzz of them we are facing problems here....our jobs are being taken away and etc etc....so Indian media should stop saying crap things and should not highlight lies.........

its a shame, once upon a time australia was one amongst the most desired place to live in.we in india have all sorts of people staying from all parts of the world.if australia is doing this with our indians then its a shame and if they want indians to leave australia then they should arange a meeting with their govt and force their govt not to allow indians in their company, and allthose australians living in india should be called back to australia, i would like to know that the money coming to their country is most welcomed and when our indian bro's n sisters spend so much money and have gone to study then this is how they behave. its a shame, return their money and indians will come back, n am sure none of my fellow friend will never bother to look back n the whole world should shun australia. its a shame for you australia, its a shame.

Now a days Australia is the hottest destination of higher studies compared to us and uk. And also Australian universities are contesting each other to woo Indian students. If they can’t ensure the safety and security of students who left there family and spend a hefty money, then why are they trying to attract International students. if they won’t take immediate action against this and make sure these kind of incidents won’t happen in future, then parents will think twice before they sending there wards to Australia for higher studies(or will be blacklisted by them).

I have never been to Australia. I don't know how Indians are treated in Australia but I know very well how Indians from different states are treated in other states in India. How Indians are differentiated according to caste, religion and place of domicile. I will try to change that first and think about racism abroad. I will be happy when media doesn't mention the caste or religion or place of origin in India itself in each and every case whether it is the selection of parliament or every day happenings.

These are not racism all, but more a operation jealousy and Goonda Gardi of few people, as they are very jealous of Indians who are very hard working and law abiding. They feel insecure about themselves, because they feel that the Indians after studying shall get there jobs. Through out the world people have come to know that the Indians are very hard working and sincere to their masters. That's why all this hullabaloos is going on. The Indians residing there have to stand up and resist all these and take certain precautions. Gandhi's are not born every now and then they are once in centuries, we have to only work on the path shown by such people.

As Far as the Indian student goes they slimy Oz know to well that Indian students are the best crop for any corporate placement which would eventually one day they would have to work for an Indian boss . So they show their frustration by attacking these students who are soft targets and keep a low profile usually. What need to be done the the OZ government need to have zero tolerance policy to ward such perpetrators , the student them self should find safety in numbers and should not let their guard down this will it self discourage any one picking on them -period

Back at home, our own country is plagued with fissiparous tendencies like regionalism, linguism, parochialism, casteism, communalism, factionalism, groupism etc etc. Govt. of India itself follows discriminatory policies, double standards, step-motherly treatment and partisan attitude in respect of the Union of States within the Indian Republic. It is very strange as to why the Prime Minister's gaddy is always occupied by a North Indian? (by default and due to some compelling circumstances, on two occasions P.V. Narasimha Rao from A.P. and Deve Gowda from Karnataka were installed as PM. Deve Gowda was unceremoniously removed without completing his tenure). Why this hegemony by North and why South remain as subservient to North as second class citizens? Let our homes are set right first before pointing our accusing finger at others on racialism or apartheid policies adopted by Aussies and joining the band wagon/chorus. However, the prejudices based on COLOR and the violence unleashed by few misguided Australian youth is to be condemned in strongest terms.

We go to study to Australia, i think they are more illetrates. And the World says the Level of illetracy in India is high. I think all the Indians should join hands and tell them what Indians are, so that they stop messing with us....

I strongly agree upon a 'planned cultural discrimination from Aussi Gov' since I have heard from many Indian student regarding their security telling
"If we call to cops for any crime, they catch and harass us only instead of filing complaint or investigate in the matter .!!"
If it would have been a racism, it should not have been started at now, it must have started from last 5-10 years.
This is a sophisticated way, indirectly supported by Australian Government to loot, harass (mentally and physically) international students.
No other country in the world has such a high crime report against international as Australia has. I have my sister studying in Australia and getting updates regularly regarding the "true" story.
The world is witness so far that Indian communities are known for least criminal activities, higher education, hardworking and mingling nature and this is the "reward" to them from Australian Government.
I strongly plead to all international students in Australia to form groups for their security and self respect to safeguard themselves not from so called "Racism" but a sophisticated "Racism supporter government".
A final quote, "This is not a frustration thrown out, but a conclusion of analysis of daily 2 hours of conversation with Indian students studying in Australia". Nobody in the world after reviewing the present situation will leave "Australian Gov." without condemning.
Praying for peace and harmony,
A responsible cosmopolitan

History was created, today's and tommorrow is in our hand. If the Australian Govt. cannot do anything against this happening , it's a shame on their part. We Indians also has to understand their feelings for security. Why work for others, why go abroad and take lessons from them ---- all this is not available in our own country, then whats the problem? Its a fad rising among Indians - a foreign return - gets most respect, more money when he comes back. Why this type of feeling? Why always blame others? That's a country, but similar issues are thier in our states - inter states-conflict.
So think and act for good of self and others.

When we are living in a world of extremism, militancy, recession, hate, revenge, unstable countries, climate change, broken relationships, failed marriages, unkept promises, betrayals etc, we once again complicate our lives with Racism.Unfortunatly humanity is getting slow & painful death by seeing its own people are living in a state of discrimination.when world has become a global village than what is the need of practicising an age old ill tradition. We have only one lifi to live and to explore world.and what we are producing with our precious life is Racism. This color discrimination is making us blind towards Humanity & global brotherhood. We have all the reasons to fight and to practise racism but we also have the reasons & factors to make it a world of love, peace & harmony.Choice is ours.

The practice of Racial descrimination is bad.It should be banned as it leads to degradation of moral values in the society. If casteism is bad and untouchability is a crime then Racism is no smaller evil.
We should join forces to stop this as evry person has an equal right to live and live life as per his choice and no person or agency has the freedom or power to alter it.
Racism is cowardness and is purely created by Whites to cover their inferiority complex of not being able to achieve success as the other races.
We should jointly condemn this act and should not support governments which favour racism
Mahesh Laud
While condemning the chain of recent attacks on Indian students in different parts of Australia I offer my moral support to all the victims and their families.
The media and our government leaders call it a result of racial discrimination. I think it is an extension Indian extremists' thinking and actions abroad. For decades we have seen attacks against people who have come to work or settle in Mumbai (them Bombay) since way back in 1970s. Last year, several people from Bihar were killed or brutally attacked in Mumbai.
In Gujarat Christians and Muslims are looked upon with distrust and animosity as if they are not human beings. They are blatantly denied human rights and the govenemnt and executive branch are no help to the victims there.
Again, Christians in Orisa and Karnataka are systematically and consistently attacked Hindu extremists with impunity.
If one is not respected at home how can he/she expect it from neighbours and strangers?
Let us, therefore, stand toghether and make efforts to see that all human beings get respect irrespective of their caste creed and colour in our own country and the rest will follow.

Racism of any type should be condemned. Amont other things, it indicates the weakness of those fostering it, that they are not able to do things that those thy are against fn do. and the emptiness of their own thinking.

Racism is a deeply rooted psychological condition emanating from fear of the other. This could be based on various socio-historical/economic reasons and lies dormant in all of us. Its overt expression expresses itself in violence and in our times it has an obvious economic reason. Hordes of Indian students in Australia set out fear signals. Recession is a bad time. One may experience a job taken away, see women leaving for greener relationships, perceive arrogance and groupism etc. these trigger off anger and frustration. with all due respect to our own kith and kin in Australia or anywhere else in the world we tend to talk down, use derogatiry language while referring to people of the host community and generally flaunt our present economic superiority. We also tend to believe and dramatise our so called cultural and intellectual superiority. These are irritants that snowball into violence.
As for atithi dev bhavo etc , raping or murdering white tourists is quite common in india. A concerted effort by govts and people would bring about a change. The present article smacks of "Oh look how good we are......." stuff. We need some serious introspecyion about our own racist tendencies.
Dr Roopali sircar gaur
Racism like all other types of hate is like cancer. It grows from within, spreads and destroys the very host that it has grown with. By coming up with one excuse after another for the racial attacks, the powers in Australia are only manifesting their own complicity in the dreaded disease. It should also be a good warning to Indians who preach and practise exclusivism within India.
JOSEPH KEVE
Whining about racism is hypocritical when you, in your own home, practice open and covert social, economic and political discrimination against the Scheduled Castes, Tribes and other backward communities. Make some introspection and as the saying goes the 'physician, heal thyself.

Racism in any where, in any form whatsoever is deplorable. While all of India is today gungho against racism in Australia... can we pause for a moment and think about eradicating racism from our own country??
It is indeed sad that Indian students in Australia are suffering.. but students from North-eastern parts of India suffer every year in our nation's capital.. what about them? Who will speak for them?
It is easy to point the fault of others.. but remember while you are pointing a finger at the other... three fingers are pointing at yourself...

Comments :- Though I think that it is not proper to condemn all the people of a country because of such incidents - repugnant and despicable though they are - I for one have decided that I would think twice before visiting Australia if ever I decided to travel as a tourist .. but again .. if the Austrailan Government gives these incidents the attention it should and brings the criminals to justice .. I would be open to reconsider my views in the coming future .. we as Indians are probably one of the most open peoples of any nation in the world and having been the victims of different forms of racism in the past .. we do stand united against such abhorrent and stigmatic events ...

We should not forget the background of australians. They were British prisoners who were exiled to a far-away island. They have fine brains because of their British background but they are surely inclined towards violence.
Now when threat of loosing a comfy job is a probability due to recession - the frustration is vented out on a group (Indians) that has abundance of cheap replacement candidates who happen to provide decent output too.
They will have to learn to survive in the real world - which is very small these days!

It was very sad to hear that a fellow indian was treated so badly. But I was more hurt when Thackerey and his coteries did the same, that too in INDIA. If people have forgotten let me refresh the attacks on north indians in Maharashtra. The australian episode is troublesome, but then they are foreigners. Here in india, the same is done not by any foreigner but by indians themselves. Hence before making such a hue and cry lets introspect. Once we start respecting ourselves and other fellow Indians respect abroad will come through. It also true that most of these incidents outside India are due to the fact that India is doing well.....

One thing is proved again by Australian hooligans...Richness in Money doesn't matter if you are humanly bankrupt.

There is no requirement to get too hysterical about the "racism" in Australia. I would suggest that we look at some of our own states where rampant violence is prevalent in a far more intense form against our own countrymen and women just because they are unable to defend themselves. Or is it because Indians hurting Indians is OK with the media?

Human beings are created equal. But man makes the difference. He cannot be discriminated against race, colour, caste or whatever form. This is inhuman and unjust. Those who do that sholud be punished

whatever is going on in these days is the very ridiculous happening in Australia.what can these people get from such doings, it's very shameful for the human society. These people show their dissappointedness by such things, really how narrow minded are these people.Indians are working peacefully in entire world and they are doing their efforts to make growth and development of nations, but these racist ,narrow minded, arrogant, lazy & dirty minded people don't want that the hard working people should have to stay there. Govt. should have to do something for the security of indians & others who are facing such probs.

Abuse comes in many forms. Humans are the worst thing that has ever happened to the worlds' ecosystem. Mother Earth is not pleased with us, thus - neither is the universe. Are we humans stronger than ourselves, or are we doomed to fail as a species?
Daniel Dybowski
Racism is a cultural manifestation born in our minds. Humans are predisposed to be with people of like kind, thus perpetuating the illusion that the Other is unwelcome. We have the power to overcome racial barriers, if we begin to break down those mental barriers first, be recognizing our individual worldviews and bigotry are cultural byproducts that shoehorn or pidgeon-hole our thinking in one direction. Here are some steps to take:
1. Practice living out of your element, i.e. go live somewhere else in the world other than your place of birth, for about three to five months.
2. Try to think from another person's perspective, i.e. place yourself in their shoes.
3. Attempt to strike up a conversation with the Other, which only shows your affability, and gregarious nature -qualities that go far beyond the isolationism chosen by those who decide that their one-world view is somehow better than the Other.
4. Learn anthropology, and read theorists like Stanley Tambiah, Clifford Geertz, and Pierre Bourdieu.
Taking these steps is recognition that we MUST open dialogue with one another before we ever jump to conclusions about the Other based on stereotypes, which are inherently tied to cultural predispositions we all have, unless we learn to see through it.

These attacks look more of like frustration of few thugs. Indians in Australia should stay united and get some political and people force behind the authorities to curb these attacks. Australian government should take right steps to build confidence in all the people at stake and try to educate the citizens of her country to respect the respectful.

I think protest against racism should be spashed amply in the international media, so that there would be international pressure on racists... It might take a long time to make a dent in the mindsets of people, but the movement should begin
